Los Angeles-based designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard is known for injecting color and personality into interiors for an A-list clientele that includes Ellen Pompeo, Eva Mendes, and Kylie Jenner in addition to hotels from Los Angeles to Istanbul. He’s just extended his reach to hardwood floors, courtesy of a new collaboration with luxury lifestyle brand Duchateau.
Some of the world’s great architects inspired the collection, says Bullard. “These colors, based in history, are timeless, creating a nod to the history and to the incredible experience that [these architects] have given to the world.”
The collection’s six styles are available in wide-plank European white oak. Niemeyer, a light wood desaturated with a subtle greige sheen that evokes driftwood, pays homage to the influential Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. Lutyens, named for the English architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, is a pale yet luminous flooring that feels at once time-worn and modern. A play of light tones with a hint of warmth, Neutra evokes the indoor-outdoor designs of modern master Richard Neutra. Recognizing the innovative work of Georges-Eugène Haussmann, Napoleon III is a blond wood that exemplifies Parisian style. Jeanneret, after Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret, is a rich, welcoming brown. Italy’s Andrea Palladio is celebrated in the bold and dramatic Palladio.
The floors aren’t just beautiful. Duchateau plants a tree for every hardwood floor sold thanks to its DUgood sustainability initiative in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
